--> Swimming down the Havasu Canyon in the Grand Canyon.
HomeAbout TaylorGallery guide

The Grand Canyon really is grand, so we have all probably seen a lot of photos of the place. This makes it a little tough to go there and experience something new. Havasu Canyon, located in the Supai Indian reservation in the middle of the Grand Canyon makes this possible. A classic desert 10 mile hike in across arid canyon floor going down to narrow canyons takes you into the good parts where you can swim and experience a few days in the heart of the canyon. One tip: the tribe will pack in your gear on horseback for something like $10 a bag. It is a great idea. Scampering along the trail with just a daypack is pretty nice, especially if you go when there is a brutally hot sun overhead (remember, you are in Arizona).
