I liked water temperature for swimming. Even though the water is not as warm as the US beaches way down south, but it is warmer than most of the areas like Cape Cod, New York, etc. Located in the gulf of st lawrence it gets a protection from the open ocean. There are a bunch of good beaches, with most of them on the southern eastern end. The north western end tends to gets a little more undertow and riptides when the water gets rougher. My favourite was PEI National Park with 45 km of beach just outside of Charlottetown.
